ShibariCon Event Rules

Safe, Sane and Consensual (SSC)

Our community recognizes the phrase "Safe, Sane, Consensual" as the best brief summary of the principles guiding our practices:

• Safe is being knowledgeable about the techniques and safety concerns involved in what you are doing, and acting in accordance with that knowledge.

• Sane is knowing the difference between fantasy and reality, and acting in accordance with that knowledge.

• Consensual is respecting the limits imposed by each participant at all times. One of the recognized ways to maintain limits is through a "safe word" which ensures that each participant can end his/her participation with a word or gesture

SM vs. Abuse guidelines from NCSF.

SHIBARICON EVENT RULES
Please pay attention to the rules. If you have a problem with anyone at the event or notice disregard for these rules that could put our event in jeopardy please notify Diana, Security, Play Space Monitors or another member of the ShibariCon staff.

BADGES
You must wear your wristband AND badge at all times during ShibariCon. It is critical that you remember both your badge and your wristband. The wristband is designed to be worn throughout the entire event and not be removed. You will not be permitted to enter any portion of the event without both pieces of identification. If you lost your badge or wristband, contact registration immediately.

LOST AND FOUND
If you find something, bring it to security. If you lose anything, notify security.

EVENT STAFF
You must obey all ShibariCon staff, security and safety monitors. Failure to obey staff will result in your immediate removal from the event.

SECURITY
If you have trouble of any nature, please contact security or a staff member.

HOTEL STAFF
Be respectful and pleasant to the hotel staff. Let's make sure we are welcome back in the future.

PARKING
Parking is permitted only in designated spaces. Your car will be towed if parked in an inappropriate space.

STATE LAWS
Obey all federal, state and local laws and ordinances.

SOLICITATION
Prostitution, solicitation and negotiation of payment for sexual services are ILLEGAL and will not be tolerated. Violations shall result in permanent removal from the event.

PUBLIC AREAS
While in public areas of the hotel, it is expected that behavior and attire will be appropriate for a vanilla public environment. We are not the only guests at the hotel and alienating other guests or hotel employees will only cause problems for the event. Do not "play" or test new toys in the parking lots or anywhere in public view.

DAMAGE TO THE HOTEL
Do not tie yourself or anyone to any hotel fixture such as towel racks, shower curtain rods, closet rods, sprinkler heads, pipes, plumbing, etc. You will be held personally responsible for the ensuing damage.

EMERGENCIES
In the event of a medical emergency or problem remain clear of the area and let the appropriate personnel do their jobs.

FOR YOUR SAFETY…
Please read these notes and contact security if you have any questions.

ATTIRE
You must be dressed "street legal" in the hotel lobbies and on the shuttle buses. All attendees must be careful to be dressed appropriately while in the parking lots and when "leaving" the convention to go to local restaurants and shops. Be mindful that the local businesses are NOT a part of the convention and that everyday "vanilla" attire and behavior is required. Let's not be our own worst enemy.

DRINKING
We encourage you to have a good time during the event. If you choose to drink, please do so responsibly. You may be ejected from the event if your behavior interferes with the enjoyment of others or removed from the play areas if you appear to be intoxicated.

BEHAVIOR
There is always someone who you think ought to be elsewhere. Please refrain from any behavior that interferes with the ability of others to deliver their lecture, demonstration, or workshop and postpone all personal "confrontations" until after the event. If you feel that you are the subject of rude or improper behavior, please notify security.

EVENT STAFF
The staff are all volunteers who have been working diligently for months to make this event a success. Please follow all instructions received from staff. Should you have a problem with those instructions please bring your concerns to the security or info table and we will assist you. Failure to follow instructions from the event staff or interfering with their work may result in being removed from a particular activity or ejection from the event.

IN THE EVENT OF FIRE
The security staff will direct you to the nearest exit. Should no staff be near your location, proceed to the nearest exit. The security staff will guard the vendor area as well as the play spaces to minimize any potential for loss due to theft, therefore do not take time to gather up your toys or other belongings first. Your safety is more important, and the sooner we can clear out an area, the better for the emergency personnel.

VENDING
Vending from cars, hotel rooms, or other parts of the event is not permitted unless authorized in advance by an officer of ShibariCon. Unauthorized vending may result in ejection from the event.

FLYERS
No handbills or flyers may be distributed without advance permission from an officer of ShibariCon.

COMMON SENSE
The Rules apply to EVERYONE. Don't sneak a picture, park illegally or decide it won't matter if you run to the supermarket dressed in your leather. After all, you'll only be in there for a second. Your good behavior will inspire others or should we say that your bad behavior may affect us all. Please use common sense in what you wear and do both in the hotel and in the community.

A FINAL NOTE
A Plea for Help: In any event as large as ShibariCon, there may be times when individuals attempt to get into the play spaces or classrooms who don't belong. By prominently displaying your wristband - ON YOUR WRIST - and wearing your name badge it will help us detect people who shouldn't be at the event. If you see someone who appears to be too young or has no identification please notify staff or security.
