Shibaricon Event Rules

Safe, Sane and Consensual (SSC)

Our community recognizes the phrase "Safe, Sane, and Consensual" as the best brief summary of the principles guiding our practices:

• Safe is being knowledgeable about the techniques and safety concerns involved in what you are doing, and acting in accordance with that knowledge.

• Sane is knowing the difference between fantasy and reality, and acting in accordance with that knowledge.

• Consensual is respecting the limits imposed by each participant at all times. One of the recognized ways to maintain limits is through a "safe word" which ensures that each participant can end his/her participation with a word or gesture

SM vs. Abuse guidelines from NCSF.

Shibaricon Event Rules
This is a preliminary list of the event rules.  The rules as printed in the program book you will receive at the event will supersede any rules listed on this page.  At the event, you will be held responsible for knowing the rules as they are printed in the program book.

If you have a problem with anyone at the event or notice disregard for these rules that could put our event in jeopardy please notify Diana, Andy, Security, Play Space Monitors or another member of the Shibaricon staff.

BADGES
You must wear your wristband AND badge at all times during Shibaricon.  The wristband is designed to be worn for the duration of the event.  You will not be permitted to enter any portion of the event without BOTH your badge AND wristband.  If you lose your badge or wristband, please contact registration immediately.

PHOTOGRAPHY & CELL PHONE USAGE
Shibaricon is a private event. Photography is not allowed. This is a change from our previous policy of having official event photographers. Shibaricon has grown and the number of attendees who are uncomfortable with the presence of cameras far outnumbers those who wish to be photographed. Cell phones, whether they have the capability to take pictures or not, likewise may not be used in the event space. If you are using your cell phone you will be removed from the event space. Event staff will have internal and external communication devices. Please check your program book at the event for any updates to this policy.

LOST AND FOUND
If you find something, bring it to security.  If you lose anything, notify security.

EVENT STAFF
Obey all Shibaricon staff, security and safety monitors.  Failure to obey staff will result in your immediate removal from the event.

SECURITY
If you have trouble of any nature, please contact security or a staff member.

HOTEL STAFF
Be respectful and pleasant to the hotel staff.  Let's make sure we are welcome back in the future.

PARKING
Parking is permitted only in designated spaces.  Your car will be towed if parked in an inappropriate space.

STATE LAWS
Obey all federal, state and local laws and ordinances.

SOLICITATION
Prostitution, solicitation and negotiation of payment for sexual services are ILLEGAL and will not be tolerated.  Violation shall result in ejection from this and all future Shibaricon events.

PUBLIC AREAS
In public areas of the hotel, it is expected that your behavior and attire will be appropriate for a vanilla public environment.  Alienating other guests or hotel employees will only cause problems for the event.  Do not "play" or test new toys in the parking lots or anywhere in public view.

DAMAGE TO THE HOTEL
Do not tie yourself or anyone to any hotel fixture such as towel racks, shower curtain rods, closet rods, sprinkler heads, pipes, plumbing, etc.  You will be held personally responsible for the ensuing damage.

EMERGENCIES
In the event of a medical emergency or problem remain clear of the area and let the appropriate personnel do their jobs.

ATTIRE
All attendees must dress appropriately in all public areas of the hotel, parking areas and surrounding community.  Local businesses are NOT a part of our event and everyday "vanilla" attire and behavior is required.  Let's not be our own worst enemy.

NUDITY & CLEANLINESS
Per hotel policy, when in contact with hotel furniture, either you or the furniture must be properly covered.  Please be mindful that fabric chairs are difficult to clean and sanitize.  The hotel has made this simple request and will provide plenty of clean towels and a bin for dirty linen.  This common courtesy is important to the hotel.  Please respect their wishes.

DRINKING
We encourage you to have a good time during the event. If you choose to drink, please do so responsibly.  You may be ejected from the event if your behavior interferes with the enjoyment of others or removed from the play areas if you appear to be intoxicated.

BEHAVIOR
There is always someone who you think ought to be elsewhere.  Please refrain from any behavior that interferes with the ability of others to deliver their lecture, demonstration or workshop and postpone all personal "confrontations" until after the event.  If you feel that you are the subject of rude or improper behavior, please notify security.

EVENT STAFF
Please follow all instructions received from event staff. Should you have a problem with those instructions please bring your concerns to the security or info table and we will assist you.  Failure to follow instructions from the event staff or interfering with their work may result in being removed from a particular activity or ejection from the event.

IN THE EVENT OF FIRE
Security will direct you to the nearest exit.  Should no staff be near your location, proceed to the nearest exit.  Do not take time to gather up your toys or other belongings.  Your safety is more important.  The sooner we clear an area, the better for emergency personnel.

VENDING
Vending from cars, hotel rooms, or other parts of the event is PROHIBITED unless authorized in advance by an officer of Shibaricon.  Unauthorized vending may result in ejection from this and any future Shibaricon.

FLYERS
No handbills or flyers may be distributed without advance permission from an officer of Shibaricon.

COMMON SENSE
The Rules apply to EVERYONE.  Don't sneak a picture, park illegally or dress inappropriately outside the event space.  Your good behavior will inspire others or should we say that your bad behavior may affect us all.  Please use common sense in what you wear and do both in the hotel and in the community.

A FINAL NOTE
A Plea for Help: In any event as large as Shibaricon, there may be times when individuals attempt to get into the play spaces or classrooms who don't belong.  By prominently displaying your wristband - ON YOUR WRIST - and wearing your name badge it will help us detect people who shouldn't be at the event.  If you see someone who appears to be too young or has no identification please notify security immediately.

Play Space Rules
Please read and understand these rules.  They are for your safety and comfort, as well as the safety and comfort of those around you.  Please direct any questions to a Safety Monitor or Security before you play.  Unwillingness to follow instructions from Safety Monitors, Security or Shibaricon staff may result in your removal from the play space, event and all future Shibaricon functions.

CONSENT
By your entry into the Play Space, you acknowledge that you have read these rules, understand and will abide by them, and that you assume all risks incident to your attendance at this event.

ETIQUETTE
Normal party etiquette is required.  Do not interfere with a scene.  Do not touch anyone's body or equipment without permission.  You are not required to say or do anything.  Watching is acceptable, although you must maintain a safe distance from a scene in progress.  Please keep laughter, conversation, and comments to a minimum.  Play fair.  Do not monopolize equipment - others want to play too.  Abnormally loud talking or screaming during a scene is disruptive to others and is discouraged.

SAFETY SHEARS
As this is a rope bondage event it is expected that everyone (Top, bottom, switch, butcher, baker & candlestick maker) will have a pair of safety shears within easy reach, i.e. not buried at the bottom of a full bag of toys.  In the event that there is an emergency and your shears are somehow not available, all Safety Monitors, Security & Staff will have safety shears handy.  Please don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it.

SAFETY MONITORS
Safety Monitors (DMs) must be obeyed.  If someone is violating rules or bothering you please notify a Safety Monitor or Security.  Some of our rules are based on hotel policy and we cannot always grant exceptions.  Don’t shoot the messenger.  Safety Monitors are there for your protection and to ensure a safe and comfortable play environment for all.  Please be cooperative and treat them with respect.

SAFE WORDS
The house safe word for "Stop" is "Red" and the house "Caution" word is "Yellow".  A Safety Monitor will intervene in a scene if the Top does not respond appropriately when one of these words is used.  A loudly-shouted "Safe word!" will also be interpreted as a call for outside assistance.

RESTRICTED ACTIVITIES
No Kidnapping Role Playing scene, Breath play or Electrical Play is allowed without prior permission from a Safety Monitor or Shibaricon staff. A device which sends an electrical charge into the body will not be connected to any portion of the anatomy above the waist.

ELECTRICITY USAGE
Nothing may be plugged into an electrical outlet in the event space.  Please see a Safety Monitor if you need clarification.

NO OPEN FLAME
Due to hotel policy, there will be no open flame or fire of any kind allowed in the event space.  This includes but is not limited to matches, lighters and candles.  Please check with a Safety Monitor if you need clarification.

MESSY SCENES
Food play, or any similarly messy play, is not allowed in the event space.  Please use good judgment with regard to anything messy.  Shibaricon can’t afford a cleaning bill and we are not able to hose down the Hyatt Regency.

SAFER SEX
Safer sex practices are required for all activities.  Safer sex supplies will be available from the medical staff.  Genital to genital contact and sexual intercourse is prohibited in the event space.  If you need clarification please see a Safety Monitor.

CLEANING SUPPLIES
Cleaning supplies are available at safety station s throughout the play space and classrooms. If you do a messy scene, please use a tarp or drop cloth. Please clean up after your scene. Leave all equipment free of sweat, bodily fluids, lubricants, etc. Bring bodily fluid contamination to the attention of a Safety Monitor.

CELL PHONES
NO CELL PHONES ARE ALLOWED IN THE EVENT SPACE. Please leave your cell phone in you car or room. If you need to make a call, please step outside. In an emergency, Staff, Security and Medics will have internal and external communication devices.

ALCOHOL, ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES
Alcohol, smoking, and Illegal substances, are prohibited in the event space.  Smoking is only allowed in designated areas of the hotel.  Illegal substances, use or transfer will result in immediate and permanent ejection from the event.

FOOD & DRINK
Food & drink in the event space is discouraged, with the exception of water, juices, soft drinks, coffee or tea.  Exceptions may be made for medical conditions and those working several continuous hours in the event space.  No food or drink may be served in the event space if it is not purchased from the hotel.  This includes bringing in pizza, donuts, bagels, etc.  You can, of course, have whatever you’d like in your hotel room.

LIABILITY
Neither Shibaricon, it's Officers, nor the management, volunteers, owners, or operators of the facilities, nor any agents, successors or assigns of any of the foregoing shall be liable to any attendee for injury to person or property incurred as a result of attendance at this event.
